Scary Images

No, not zombies. You can quit cowering in the corner, Eric.

I'm talking about images of my new leg.

Coming tonight.

I promise.

Maybe late tonight.

But tonight.

Probably.

"Lt. Dan! You Got Magic Legs!"

-Forrest Gump

Okay, more like magic LEG, 'cause the other one's still the original equipment, but you know what I'm going for here.

Yep, I got it yesterday, like I said I was going to, but I've been so busy dancing, and running foot races, that I haven't had time to stop and tell you about it.

Okay, so maybe not dancing and running, but I have been showing it off to family and co-workers. Right now, I'm using crutches to aid in my walking, but, by G*d, it's WALKING. I didn't think I was ever gonna get to this point.

One year and six days! It's been that long since my amputation.

What a long, strange trip it's been. And I'm glad y'all were here to share the trip with me. Friends like y'all have made this a much more bearable journey.

Hey, Everybody!

How's everyone doin'? Things are pretty copacetic around here, although I've been in a cast for the last week. No, nothing new, just this same leg... ok, HALF-leg, still not healing in one little spot, and a new spot has opened up that the young doctor said was from bending my knee. The bending was causing the bandage to rub on that spot, hence causing skin sloughage(wonderful word, sloughage, innit?). So he thought he'd just show me, and put the leg in a cast up to mid-thigh.

Know what? Unless specifically made to be weight-bearing, casts don't hold up too well, or at least my casts don't. The end was crushed in, the upper rim was going soft, and the crush aspect from the end was moving up toward my knee. Hey! Gotta go to work, right? Gotta get in and out of my car somehow, right? At least I couldn't bend my knee! Doesn't matter how awkward it was for me to move around, or to transfer into the car. Gotta keep that knee straight, at all costs!

Well, today when the older Dr. saw me, he asked me if I knew how to wrap my leg with just an Ace Bandage. I told him "Give me one, and I'll show you!" I wrapped that sucker up in a heartbeat! He said, " Well, I guess you do. Come see me in two weeks." Now I'm back to this two week appointment crap. Guess I'm just gonna have to build that wheelchair after all.

You're Free To Go...

Where we want to allow you to go! This is outrageous!

Police said there are plenty of streets with sidewalks around the city and suggested Schneider stick to those.

Sounds like discrimination to me. Granted, he could've handled it better, but, still, are we not allowed to go where we want or need to go?

If the illegal aliens aren't restricted from "going where they want to go", why are we?

A Lunch Funny

My mom picked me up from work today, and we went to lunch at a great Chinese buffet in town. We were sitting there, and as I emptied my plate from my second trip through the line, she looked at me and said, "You better watch out. You're going to gain back everything you lost.", referring to the 50 lbs. I lost after the amputation.

I quickly snapped back, "Not everything."

She just sat there with a blank look on her face, then it hit her and she started blushing. "You know what I meant!"

I am so glad I didn't turn morose and sullen after the amputation. This shit is just too much fun!

A Sad State Of Affairs

Well, Hell! I just received a phone call from the company I work for. According to them, I am no longer employable by them due to my recent amputation. There was lots of legalese about insurance and liability, but it boils down to the same thing; I gotta go. Well, at least they set me up with an interview with a company more in line with my needs and abilities. So, from now on, I'll be working at...

IHOP!
